Step into Teaching provides teachers in training with the opportunity to gain insight into latest techniques and help you develop the necessary skills for teaching, learning and assessing.
Learn the foundations of why and how teachers teach, plan lessons and carry out assessments. Step into Teaching is perfect if you'd like to study in the 16+ Further Education sector.

What will I study?
- Learn with expert tutors on how to practise teaching and develop teaching skills through practical learning

Entry Requirements
- GCSE English at C/4 or above (or equivalent)
- Level 3 qualification in a subject you wish to teach in
- Complete and pass a formal interview
- Enhanced DBS Check
- English not your first language? You'll need ot have completed a IELTS 7.5 with no element lower than 7.0 or equivalent

How will I be assessed?
Over the duration of the Step in to Teaching course you will be assessed by:
Portfolio: professional development, breadth of experience, the wider role and responsibility of teachers in the FES Sector.
Observation of teaching practice: Simulated micro/mini teach activity to your peers, (plus observation of teaching practice for in-service trainees).
Observations of others: subject specialist teachers and other advanced practitioners.
Written assessments that may include assignments, rationale for teaching practice, reflective essay, or professional reflective journal.

On completion of Step into Teaching you will receive the Preparatory Certificate (Education and Training)
The Preparatory Certificate is the first module of the six for the Certificate in Education or PGCE (Further Education and Skills Sector).
If you choose to upgrade your teaching qualification to a Certificate in Education or PGCE you will be given accreditation for the Preparatory Certificate you would need to have a teaching placement as part of the national requirements for these courses. You would then need to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Please note that if you continue your teacher education onto a course with a placement requirement, (Certificate in Education or PGCE) you will be required to show evidence that you have achieved GCSE mathematics at grade C/4 or above or OfQual approved equivalent.
Assessment is varied and aligns to the expected outcomes for the module, as well as demonstrating good practice in both assessment of learning and assessment for learning on the programme.
