In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment - City and Guilds (2377-77) - Level 3 Award (Portable Appliance Testing)

It is expected that candidates attempting this qualification should be familiar with electrical systems and the hazards of electricity in order to satisfactorily complete the course. The level 3 Electrotechnical NVQ is the qualification that indicates to industry that an individual is qualified. These qualifications are designed to provide expertise and focus on the IEE's Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.

Without evidence of formal qualifications, candidates must be able to demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience to ensure they have the potential to successfully gain the qualification. Any candidate without electrical qualifications must contact the college for a verbal interview. This qualification is not approved for use by candidates under the age of 18, and City & Guilds will not accept any registrations for candidates in this age group.

Every item of electrical equipment in a commercial environment is required to be PAT tested - that is to say, it has been tested as being safe to use and has been marked as such, whether it be a kettle, a toaster or a computer. This three day practical workshop covers everything necessary to successfully achieve the City and Guilds certification. The course includes both a theory element and a practical element. We take you through the practical disciplines and formal recording processes, as well as preparing you for the online City and Guilds test.

How will the course be delivered?

The assessment at the end of the course consists of a multiple choice examination plus a practical assessment.
