  • Overview

    The Level 2 Hairdressing Professional Apprenticeship Standard is designed to equip apprentices with the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to become competent hairdressers.

     

    Throughout the Apprenticeship, individuals will develop a range of core skills and competencies. These include shampooing, conditioning, and treating the hair and scalp, cutting hair using various techniques such as one-length cuts, graduation, layering, and texturising, as well as styling and finishing hair through blow-drying, setting, and dressing hair for different looks.

     

    Apprentices will also gain proficiency in colouring and lightening hair, applying semi-permanent, permanent, lightening, and toning products. Effective communication skills are emphasised for consulting with clients about their needs and expectations, alongside conducting thorough hair and scalp analyses to determine appropriate services and products.

  • What will I study?

    A Level 2 Apprentice for Hair Professionals should be able to:
    • Provide a positive impression of yourself, organisation and the hairdressing industry.
    • Adhere to health and safety, infection control, legal, industry and organisational requirements, industry protocols and manufacturer instructions.
    • Advise, consult, examine and analyse the hair, skin and scalp.
    • Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp.
    • Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks.
    • Style, set, dress and finish hair using a variety of techniques to create a variety of looks.
    • Change the hair classification type by one classification using chemical services
    • Perform a range of chemical services to change the colour depth and tone.
    • Use, apply and recommend a range of products, tools and equipment for a range of services.
    • Maintain up to date knowledge and skills of new and emerging hairstyles, trends, techniques, products, tools and equipment. 

    If you have a GCSE grade 2 or above you will have to achieve a Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed in both the workplace and college, this will include observation of practical skills, online exams, written assessments and professional discussion.

    The End Point Assessment will consist of an online exam, observation of practical skills and a professional discussion

  • What can I do next?

    • You can progress on to our Level 3 Hairdressing or Barbering courses
    • Run own column as a qualified barber in a salon
    • Become self-employed
