The Ascentis Level 2 Certificate and Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care Professions are designed to help learners make an informed choice about a career in health and social care.

  • Overview

    Achievement of these qualifications could act as progression towards programmes of study at Level 2 or Level 3 such as an Apprenticeship programme or the Access to HE Diploma.

    The course will be delivered over one day in college to support learners who are sitting their maths and English GCSE’s at the college. There will be an expectation of independent study in your own time to complement and build on class room learning.

    The aims of the qualifications are to enable learners to promote the skills required for learner self-confidence and further study. To encourage learners to consider a career in health and social care at various levels.

  • What will I study?

    You will study a combination of units including academic study skills to prepare you for the Access to HE course, these will include Research Skills for Academic Study, critical thinking and plagiarism.

    You will study health and social care units including:

    • Human growth and development
    • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
    • Ethical Issues in Health Care
  • Entry Requirements

    A keen interest in working in the health and social care sector is essential. Vocational experience in the sector is valuable but not essential.

    A willingness to commit to the course and to the independent studies as required and a full commitment to achieving Maths and English GCSE’s by the end of the academic year.

  • How will I be assessed?

    All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria.

    They are internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by Ascentis.

  • What can I do next?

    Upon successful completion of the course students are equipped to progress to undergraduate programs in health related fields such as our Access to HE programmes.
