Blackburn College have celebrated the culmination of a successful Leadership in Policing programme with Lancashire Constabulary, marking the success with a celebratory awards evening.

Ten students have even found jobs with the Police following the programme.

Designed to support recruitment within the Lancashire Constabulary and provide students with employability and leadership skills suitable for a career within the Police, the 24 week programme worked with 26 individuals and in particular those of Black, Asian and minority ethnic heritage.

Funded by the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, the scheme allowed students to regularly visit Lancashire Constabulary departments and focus on developing mental toughness; identifying and managing vulnerability; managing risk; and understanding the organisational culture and context of working within the Police.

As a result of the course, a number of students have reached the final stages of selection and hope to pursue a career within the Police.

Police Officer Natasha Moseley who has been responsible for working with the students said: “The programme has proved a great collaboration with Blackburn College, accessing the student community and engaging with those who reflect the local community.

“It is the first time that the Leadership in Policing Programme has been run alongside a recruitment campaign and it has been a great success with ten students gaining employment within the policing family”.

Abdul Aziz, Public Service Programme Leader at the University Centre at Blackburn College said: “It’s been fantastic to work closely with the Lancashire Constabulary and it has been very rewarding for Blackburn College to encourage key members of the community to pursue a career within policing.”

Head of Peoples Services for Lancashire Constabulary, Victor Robinson attended the awards evening, presenting graduates with their programme certificates. Victor said: “We are very proud of the partnership between Blackburn College and Lancashire Constabulary and how well the students have performed.

“We wish everyone great success in their careers and hope to see many of them pursue successful careers within Lancashire Constabulary”.
