Andy is a cut above
Former Blackburn College student Andy Jones has proved he’s a cut above the rest after opening his own barbering salon on Bolton Road, Darwen.
Andy (25) studied Level 2 Barbering at Blackburn College as well as completing a Certificate in Education before opening his salon, Andy Jones Men’s Salon, where he employs two other former Blackburn College students, Clayton Duxbury (26) and Shane Moran (28).
Playing to Darwen’s industrial roots, the salon was refurbished to feature a cast iron framework, exposed brick and floor length gilded mirrors, making Andy’s salon the epitome of style.
Andy said: “It’s fantastic to have my own salon as I’ve been in hairdressing for over ten years having worked in Manchester and Ireland.
“After two years of studying for the Certificate in Education and working with Blackburn College barbering students, I decided that I would follow my dream and set up my own business.”
Former Blackburn College students Clayton and Shane also completed the Level 3 Barbering course and were delighted to join Andy.
Andy said: “It is great to share the salon with Clayton and Shane as they are both really talented stylists.”
“We offer a service that bridges the gap between traditional barbering and men’s styling, offering the latest cutting edge hairstyles, fades, skin-fades and precision beard sculpting.
Andy added: “The average man can leave Andy Jones Men’s Salon feeling like a king!”
According to Eurmonitor the male grooming market was worth just over £35 billion last year and is estimated to grow to around £45 billion by 2020.
Andy, Clayton and Shane are hoping to be part of the growing demand for men’s styling.
Claire Thompson, Interim Head of Studies for Hair, Beauty and Hospitality at Blackburn College said: “We are delighted that three former Blackburn College students are doing so well.
“We strive to provide students with the skills, passion and desire to set up their own businesses and Andy is the perfect example of someone who has gone above and beyond to pair his talent for styling with the practicalities of running his own salon.
“We are really looking forward to following Andy, Clayton and Shane’s progress.”
