My relationship with Blackburn College started when the Job Centre encouraged me to take part in a 3 week Work Skills programme held at the College, which was designed to offer an introduction to catering as a career path.

This was the initial catalyst that made me realise I could pursue Catering and Hospitality as a career opportunity and not return to the odd factory job roles I had done previously. The Work Skills programme led me to enrol on Level 2 Professional Cookery – which then led me to Level 3 Professional Cookery and the rest is history!

Despite a busy family life in which I’ve had to juggle everything from family illness to having three young children – I’ve been able to succeed and go farther than I ever expected. The tutors have had a hand in this and have been really supportive along the way.

I’m now studying the Hospitality Management Foundation Degree FdA at the University Centre at Blackburn College and fully intend on progressing to the Hospitality Management BA (Hons) Top Up.

To those who were in my situation a few years ago, all I can say is: if I can do it, anyone can!
